'There is a loftier ambition than merely to stand high in the world! It is to stoop down and lift mankind a little higher'
Henry Van Dyke

Hey bay bays!

Today I'm reviewing a beauty product, the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub...sorry the name's a bit of a mouthful.

I believe I'm just one of many ladies out there who aren't pleased when they don't have that 'silky smooth as a baby's butt' thing going on where our faces our concerned. This is why I'm always looking out for newer ways and promising products to achieve said flawless skin.

I looked up reviews on this product as per usual before going ahead to buy this. Actually I wasn't too keen on buying this product at first but eventually I purchased this when a friend of my sister suggested and emphasized that she get this because at the time my sister had this major breakout that wasn't smiling at all.So I got mine and my sister got hers which was great since that way we could compare both our results and play judge, jury and executioner.

Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (2%) (Acne Treatment)
Inactive Ingredients: Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyethylene, Acrylates Copolymer, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Disodium EDTA, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Polyquaternium 7, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Neopentyl Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Anthemis Nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Flower Extract, Polysorbate 20, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Benzalkonium Chloride Solution, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butylphenol Sulfonate, Agar, Alumina, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Red 30 Lake, Red 40, Violet 2, Fragrance (1383-011)

We got the 6.7 fl oz (198ml) tube and it cost 2000naira. I read up on salicylic acid before buying this just so I get rid of all my misgivings.

Salicylic acid usually exfoliates the skin and at the same time decreases inflammation. It is known to be very effective at fighting acne while having a soothing, calming effect on skin as against other treatments that could leave the skin looking red and irritated. The downside to this ingredient only arises when a large amount is used for a protracted period of time over an extensive area of the skin. Besides, the level of salicylic acid found in products used to treat and clear our skins/complexions are usually very well suited and comfortable so they hardly cause any irritations if used once or twice daily.

Application
Basically, you use this product the way you would a regular scrub: wet your face and hands, apply to hands and work into a lather then massage face gently and finally rinse thoroughly...you know the drill.

I don't usually have massive breakouts, just the annoying kinds that happen during that time of the month mostly around my lips and chin.So I particularly made sure I used this product during those periods and I also put off writing a review until I had another go at it so that way I'd be certain of the results. Also my sister used hers literally everyday since she had a more serious case of acne so if anything, the expectation was that daily use would go a long way.

Moment of truth
There was no wow factor, suffice it to say that this product did not rock my world and as it turns out neither did it rock my sister's. Yes it felt amazing when applying it and I really love how it smells but honestly it didn't do much for me and did basically nothing for my sis.

Personally I can't really say why it didn't do so much for me but in my sister's case I think it's probably because she had some blackheads and  based on my research a product with 'benzoyl peroxide' as the active ingredient would have been more suited to her situation.

Benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria quickly since it is fast-acting and is known to be effective against all kinds of acne lesions (blackheads, whiteheads, and big red pimples) though it's best when used together with antibiotics. The downside to benzoyl peroxide however is that if used wrongly it can cause dryness, peeling, redness and can bleach dark fabrics so show your blouse a little mercy by taking it off before applying anything to your face.

I think ultimately, this entire experiment reminded me yet again that our skins are different and not everything works for everybody irrespective of all the glowing recommendations a product might get.

So as regards flawless skin, the search continues...

  1. I tried it too, it didn't do anything for me as well. I have tried a few other cleansers and they didn't make any difference until when i started having more breakouts than usual. I went to Casabella, spoke to the main attendent on my issue and she recommended Clean & Clear adavantage daily soothing acne wash (with aloe & avocado). It WORKS. It cleared my acne and it stops acne from appearing and it doesn't dry out the skin, instead it leaves it feeling silky smooth. Try it.

    1. That sounds like something I'm definitely trying, except that Clean & Clear and I have kind of a love-hate relationship currently with one of their other cleansers. But thanks dear for sharing, would definitely check out Casabella and thumbs up to those folks for great customer service every time.
